Social and behavioural science perspectives are crucial for understanding social practices and dynamics that form a key component in plastic waste management, and to identify and implement acceptable solutions to prevent plastics escaping into the environment. The PISCES team aims to co-create solutions by building an understanding of the lived experiences of diverse people regarding plastic and plastic leakage, alongside an understanding of the motivations, habits, attitudes, and emotions associated with current practices around plastics and the processes that underlie plastic systems. Insights from their work will inform and facilitate circular economy solutions by identifying strategies to elicit and motivate changes in attitudes, perceptions, and behavioural practices.
