Aim: To develop a system-wide plastic pollution prevention toolkit, via integration of sustainable production, consumption, and management of plastic resources.

UK lead: Dr Eleni Iacovidou, Brunel University London.
Thailand lead: Professor Joyashree Roy, Asian Institute of Technology.

Partner network: Professor Richard Bailey, University of Oxford; Dr Evina Katsou, Brunel University London, University of Plymouth, Institut Teknologi Bandung; Dr Eddy Setiadi Soedjono, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh, University of Airlangga; Dr Radisti Praptiwi, Esa Unggul University; Professor Joyashree Roy, Asian Institute of Technology.

In this work package, the PISCES team will integrate plastic pollution quantification models with wider political and socioeconomic aspects in order to develop a unified, integrated, and mathematical understanding of the activities, actions, and interventions available to prevent plastic pollution. Using the newly developed ‘Complex Value Optimisation for Resource Recovery’ (CVORR) systems analysis approach, they will identify the full range of factors and causes for the increasing use, and subsequent leakage of, plastics into the environment at a variety of scales.
